The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Zamfara State has suffered another setback following the resignation of one of its leading Zamfara North Senatorial aspirants, Dr. Hanafi Musa Turakin Moriki.
Dr. Hanafi formally submitted his resignation letter to the Chairman of Galadima/Yan Ruwa Ward in Moriki, Zurmi Local Government Area on Saturday.
In a brief statement, the aspirant said his decision was driven by dissatisfaction with the manner in which candidates emerged in the party. He alleged that no primary election was conducted to select the senatorial flagbearer for Zamfara North.
“As of now, I have resigned my membership of the APC. The process that produced our candidate was flawed and undemocratic,” he said.
As of press time, Dr. Hanafi has not disclosed the political party he intends to join.
The development further deepens the political crisis in Zamfara North Senatorial District. The Federal High Court in Gusau has fixed August 31, 2026, to deliver judgment in a suit filed by Dr. Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi challenging the conduct of the APC senatorial primary election.
Party stakeholders say the resignation and the pending court case could significantly alter the political calculations ahead of the next round of elections in the zone.
