Members of the NYSC Editorial CDS Group in Zamfara State have taken a major step toward professional journalism following an educational visit to Danfako Media Services Ltd in Gusau.
The visit, held as part of the group’s capacity-building activities, was aimed at bridging the gap between classroom theory and real-world media production. It exposed the corps members to the practical processes of news gathering, recording, editing, and dissemination.
Leading the delegation, the NYSC Public Relations Officer, Mr. Samuel Akonte, said the visit was designed to strengthen the communication skills of corps members and improve the quality of NYSC media coverage across the state.
He emphasized that effective communication is key to promoting the programmes and achievements of the NYSC, and that such exposure would equip members with the tools needed for responsible journalism.
During the tour, the corps members were taken through the company’s professional recording studio where they observed how audio and video materials are recorded to broadcast standard. Media professionals at Danfako also demonstrated the use of modern equipment and explained how sound quality, video clarity, and proper presentation contribute to credible content.
The group was further trained on the full news production cycle, from gathering information and conducting interviews to editing raw footage and preparing stories for broadcast and social media.
Speaking on behalf of the group, a member of the Editorial CDS said the visit provided practical knowledge that goes beyond what is taught in orientation.
“The CDS Group was established to help us develop skills in journalism, content creation, and information dissemination. This visit to Danfako Media has given us firsthand experience. We now better understand how to professionally report NYSC activities and produce quality photos, videos, and interviews,” he said.
The corps members noted that the experience taught them that professional media work requires planning, verification, accuracy, and responsible dissemination, not just recording and posting.
The group described the visit as highly beneficial and commended the management and staff of Danfako Media Services Ltd for their warm reception and for sharing professional knowledge with them.
The NYSC Editorial CDS Group expressed optimism that the knowledge gained would significantly improve media coverage of NYSC activities and help project a positive image of the scheme in Zamfara State.
The visit concluded with a vote of thanks to Danfako Media for hosting the corps members and supporting youth development in journalism.
