Communities in Bagega, Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State have expressed renewed confidence in the Nigerian Army following a swift security intervention that ended over 50 days of fear and restriction. The area had been under siege as residents avoided roads due to the threat of bomb explosions, a situation that cut off access to food, medicine, and other essential services.
For more than one month, Bagega residents grappled with acute hunger and malnutrition after all transportation of supplies was halted. According to residents, “social amenities can no longer reach us. Nobody can risk traveling on the road,” with many patients lacking medication and children reportedly suffering from hunger. The fear of explosions paralyzed movement and created what locals described as a “terrible” humanitarian situation in the community.
In response, the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with an anti-bomb squad, launched a decisive no-nonsense operation and successfully cleared the affected roads. The development has restored a measure of normalcy, with residents now able to move more freely to access food and medical care. Community members commended the gallantry of the troops and appealed for sustained security presence to prevent a recurrence.
