A senatorial aspirant for Zamfara North, Dr. Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, has expressed strong confidence that he will win his case against Sen. Sahabi Ya’u at the Federal High Court in Gusau.
Dr. Shinkafi stated this on Sunday during a press conference at his residence in Gusau. The event was also used to celebrate the appointment of Senator Abdulaziz Yari as the Director General of the Presidential Campaign for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Speaking to journalists, Dr. Shinkafi faulted the conduct of the Zamfara North senatorial primary election, citing provisions of the Electoral Act 2022. He referenced Section 77(5) of the Act, which mandates that a political party must submit its register of members to INEC 21 days before the conduct of any primary election.
According to him, only 26,096 registered members are eligible according to the party register available at INEC. He, however, alleged that the declared winner of the primary, Sahabi Alhaji Ya’u, scored 65,000 votes, a figure far exceeding the total number of registered members.
He listed the scores of other aspirants as: Sen. Tijjani Yahaya Kaura – 1,900 votes, Dr. Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, 1,450 votes, and Nahafi Musa, 1,190 votes.
Dr. Shinkafi also challenged the zoning arrangement that keeps the Zamfara North senatorial seat in Kaura Namoda, describing it as unjust.
The aspirant vowed to pursue the case to its logical conclusion, citing his experience. “I handled 86 cases in court when I was the National Secretary of APGA. I know the law and I seek justice from the judiciary,” he said.
He further stated that nobody can use money to influence his stance. “In politics and public affairs, I understand the dynamics. But my integrity is not for sale,” Dr. Shinkafi declared.
He also directed his supporters to return to their communities and massively mobilize for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 general election. He charged them to support all APC candidates irrespective of their differences, stressing that party unity is key to victory.
The Federal High Court in Gusau is expected to deliver judgment on the matter on August 31, 2026.
