Talata Mafara Chairman says pledge unfulfilled as bandits kill 15 in Sado.
The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, is facing renewed criticism over his failure to deploy the 2,000 army personnel earlier promised to tackle banditry in Zamfara State.
The criticism was voiced by Talata Mafara Local Government Council Chairman, Yahaya Yari Abubakar, in an interview with the BBC on Monday morning.
Mr. Abubakar said it was “pertinent for leaders to be reminded of their obligations,” accusing the minister of not fulfilling the commitment to bring 2,000 soldiers to the state.
He has maintained the accusation over the past week.
The remarks followed a deadly attack on Sado district in Talata Mafara, where bandits reportedly killed 15 residents.
The chairman also disclosed that 14 bandit camps had been dislodged in the local government area in recent operations that he personally led, using local security forces.
