Kolo Jibrin Mamman is the Secretary General of Association of Badminton Clubs In Nigeria (ABCIN)

In this interview with dfknews sports correspondent, Dahiru Samaila Mafara, he shares his experience, bares on brief history and development of badminton in Nigeria.

The Secretary General also stipulates some of the impediments to badminton in Nigeria, and grills out some new strategies and initiatives he plans to inject into the system to wax it more stronger.

EXCERPT:

dfknews: Tell us about the Kauran Gwandu Badminton Competition?

NAT SEC: This is the 3rd round of the tournament, which indeed was the utmost significant development of Badminton, a youth progressive breakthrough in particular towards fitness, morals, social stability, and a rare opportunity for most participants, including active veterans at every level in general.

dfknews: How do you plan to promote badminton in Nigeria?

NAT SEC: Promoting badminton in Nigeria has variables to be checked that cut across willpower, government’s policies, grassroot developmental programs.

Also, tournaments, training and retraining of technical officials, exposure, cooperate bodies should come in, while standard facilities strategically placed around catchment areas and regions must be ensured.

dfknews: Can you share your experience working with national badminton organizations?

NAT SEC: The body anchoring this championship for the third time is the ASSOCIATION OF BADMINTON CLUBS IN NIGERIA (ABCIN) . I came in as a veteran player and now the Secretary General of the association. I have been with the association since 2013, when we had 35 registered clubs as against 145 clubs we have this year.

I participated in almost all tournaments organized by ABCIN, atimes 10 tournaments a year.

dfknews: Are there new skills you plan to initiative to encourage participation in badminton?

NAT SEC: Structural motivation, grassroots developmental programs, schools sensitization models, provision for availability of kids, proximity of training grounds, sponsorships, media awareness, traditional emirates involvement etc., are some of the initiatives I plan to bring into the system.

dfknews: What policies would you implement to support athletes, coaches, and officials?

NAT SEC: I would introduce Free admission to schools, government organizing conventional annual tournaments, scholarships to prospective athletes, training and retraining of technical officials, exposure to better playing states or nations, using latest technologies in the developmental programs.

dfknews: What are the biggest challenges facing badminton in your country,? And how will you address them?

NAT SEC: .Certain traditional believes hinder female gender participation, religion plays is a major hindrance, some policies are not implemented.

Therefore, cogent policies should be implemented to the later, and opportunities be open donor agencies, government at levels,, individuals and cooperate bodies should key into the task of developing sports in general.
