Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle of Zamfara state has expressed deep shock over fire that claimed lives of innocent citizens as a result of military activities against bandits in Maru local government area of the state.
In a press statement duly signed Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Enlightenment, Media and Communications, Alh. Zailani Bappa and made available to newsmen in Gusau, noted that Governor Matawalle felt gripped when he heard the news about the unfortunate scene which occurred while men of the Nigeria Air force were making move to eliminate a marauding group of bandits terrorizing the area, but led to mix of casualties involving both the bandits and scores of civilians.
The statement quoted the governor condoling and sympathising with families of the civilian victims, saying “I wish to, on behalf of myself, my family, the state government and the entire good people of Zamfara state, extend my sincere sympathy to those who were injured and the families of those who lost their lives as a result of this colossal damage”
The statement added that already, the state government has commenced investigation about the remote cause of the incident with a view to avoid reoccurrence in future.
