Zamfara state Government has directed all the relevant and critical stakeholders in the health sector of the economy as a matter of urgency to liaise with the State Ministry of Education to include breastfeeding in the school’s curriculums at secondary schools levels and ensure the transition of the programme to State Government owned tertiary institutions.

The state Deputy Governor, Senator Hassan Muhammad Gusau gave the directives while flagging off 2022 world breath feeding week in the state.

Senator Hassan Muhammad Gusau acknowledged the vital roles being played by the international organisations working towards the actualization of health care service delivery around the globe and particularly considering breastfeeding as an integral part that protects children from all forms of health challenges in infancy.

The Acting Governor further explained that, Zamfara State is among the global community working towards achieving the target objective of the increase in the rate of exclusive breastfeeding within the first six months of childbirth to at least fifty per cent by the year 2025.

Jarman Gusau, while thanking the International Partners like WHO, UNICEF and Save the Children, assured the people in the State that the present administration of Governor Bello Matawallen Maradun is fully committed to the overall investment and ensuring quality healthcare service delivery to all citizens of the State.

He added that, the administration of Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle is up and doing in remitting its counterpart funds for all health-related programmes, adding that 'we will continue to provide the required funding and logistics to ensure the success of all routine immunisation and vaccination as and when due to all our children'.
