Th Zamfara State Government has Committed to maximize the state’s potential in Mining through inviting investment into the sector and promoting safer Mining practices among the artisans across the State.
The Secretary to Zamfara state Government Alhaji Kabiru Balarabe stated this, during the opening of the 3 days workshop to develop an action plan for control and prevention of lead poisoning Association with artisanal Gold Mining By Medecins Sans Frontieres with the Colleboretions with the State government, held at karma Guest inn, Gusau the state Capital.
He explained that, Mining activity have been suspended by the Federal Government due to security concerns, it's the state hope that by the time the Activities resume, the artisanal Miners that have not Joint any Cooperative will do so which is not Just for their own personal Safety and their Communities but also in the interest of advancing their career.
" It Could be recalled that, lead poisoning was discovered by Medecins Sans Frontiers during routine Immunization exercises in some Mining villages in the Southwestern part of the State in 2010, which it was reported to be one of the worsts of it's kind in human history, where at least 700 children died of the disaster, the disaster brought gold mining in the State to global spotlight, particularly artisanal Mining, which is the document Mining activity in our Mining Communities'", he said.
The Secretary to the State government was represented by The permanent Secretary Cabinet affairs, Alhaji Dr Lawal Husseini Gusau, further that, " taking into account the multiple health issue associated with lead poisoning not only on children but also the adults.
" This workshop will complement the series of other efforts, by both the government and groups like Medecins Sans Frontiers in creating awareness on the significance of safer Mining practices and dangers if lead poisoning which is often Link artisanal Minings in the end, an action plan would also be developed to guide artisanal Minings and Minerals processing in the state", as he said.
He Commended the Medecins Sans Frontiers for Join hand in this crucial endeavor, which will help create safety awareness and Save the lives of the people and entire residents of the Mining Communities’ in the state.
He urged the participants to avail enthusiasm to the opportunity of this workshop to learn more Valuable Skills on Control and prevention of lead poisoning in the state.
In his Remarks, the Lead poisoning Coordinator Zamfara state, Dr Benjamin Mwangorbe, explained that, the aimed it the work shop was to greate development work plan on how to control and prevention on the lead poisoning in the state.
" We have to make proper wareness on the Control and prevention of this lead poisoning in the state which over hundred of people lost their lives" he said.
He further that, this works plant will help in providing ways to continue tackle this problems in the state.
