The Zamfara State House of Assembly has passed Two Bills, the State Social Protection and Physical Challenge Bills.
The House pass the bill during their plenary setting at the chamber of the House, chaired by the Speaker Zamfara State Honourable Nasiru Muazu Magarya.
The house, thereafter, called for the establishment of a State Disability Board.
The House passed the bills after receiving the report of the Committees on Women, Children and Social Welfare and Parliamentary Forum, which scrutinised the bills.
The report was presented by the Chairmen of the two committees, Kabiru Magaji kwatarkwashi and Nasir Bello-Lawal Bungudu.
In their separate contributions, the lawmakers said the two bills, if passed into law, would complement government’s efforts in addressing the issues relating to disability and vulnerability.
After the deliberations, the Speaker, Nasiru Magarya, directed the Clerk of the house to read the two bills for the Third time.
He also stated that clean copies of the bills would be transmitted to Gov. Bello Matawalle for his assent.
He noted that the speaker thanked the committees for going through the rigorous process leading to the passage of the bills.
"We also appreciate the kind support from our partners, Save the Children International, and all the stakeholders, who participated in the process, We are ready to continue to partner with all development partners for the development of the state,” Magarya Said.
Meanwhile, the speaker, who doubled as the Chairman Selection Committee, announced changes in the leadership of two committees.
According to him Ibrahim Tukur (APC, Bakura), who formerly chaired the Committee on Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, now chairs the Committee on Rural Development and Cooperatives.
Ibrahim Muhammad (APC, Bukkuyum North) will now oversee the Committee on Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management.
The house also screened and confirmed four Special Adviser-nominees sent to it by the governor.
In Another Development, UNICEF applauded Zamfara State House of Assembly for the passage of Social Protection and Physical Challenge bills, describing the development as a step towards addressing poverty and vulnerability among the citizens of the state.
UNICEF Social Policy Specialist, Sokoto Field Office, Mr Isah Ibrahim made this known while reacting to the recent passage of the bill by state house of assembly.
He said UNICEF and Save the Children International have worked closely with the Zamfara State Stakeholders in the development and presentation of the bill to the house of assembly through the State ministry of budget and economic planning.
He commanded the State governor, Hon Bello Muhammad Matawalle for the conducive environment provided by administration to enable UN agencies and other development partners to support the State in the human capital development.
He appealed to the state governor for the timely assent of the bill which according would bring further opportunities for citizens to access better services of human endeavor from the state.
