The Zamfara State Government is to Partner with the United Nations Children Fund, UNICEF and other relevant Stakeholders to tackle cholera disease in the State.
The Executive secretary of the State's Primary Healthcare Board Dr. Isma'il Tukur disclosed this shortly after a meeting with relevant stakeholders on how to go about carrying out the health intervention on cholera prone areas in the State.
The Stakeholders meeting is being convened by the Zamfara State Primary Healthcare Board to heighten preparedness and to strengthen the prevention against the cholera outbreak in the State.
At this inception meeting were representative of the United Nations Children Fund, UNICEF Toying, Adisa, State's Ministry of Environment, Rural Water and Sanitation Agencies, RUWASA among others.
The executive secretary Zamfara state Primary Healthcare Board Dr. Isma'il Tukur said, the Stakeholders meeting was aimed at fashioning proactive plans to ensure the prevention of the cholera outbreak in the State, particular areas which are prone to the disease.
It is also to review the data to identify where there were high number of cases recorded and the possible causative factors so that the intervention can be tailoring towards addressing the root causes.
Dr. Tukur explained that stakeholders have put machinery in motion to ensure they reach hard - to- reach-communities with the health intervention and awareness creation against cholera, which its planned to carry out in the State, especially in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara that is one of the frontline of banditry activities and high number of cholera outbreak cases were reported the last time the State witnessed the outbreak of the disease..
The Program Manager of the Zamfara State Rural Water and Sanitation Agency, RUWASA Sani Yaro said, the agency is currently building over twenty four boreholes and its planned to build 30 solar motorized boreholes to ensure its provides safe drinking water to residents of the State.
The health intervention against cholera outbreak in Zamfara State is necessary given the Insecurity which created humanitarian crisis which several persons have been displaced can spark up outbreak of different diseases in the State.
