The Coordinator of the Academic Staff Union of the Polytechnics (ASUP), ‘Zone A’ comprising Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Niger, Jigawa, Sokoto, and Zamfara states, Dr., Abdulazeez I. Badaru, has pledged his support and commitment to Abdu Gusau Polytechnic (ASUP), Talata Mafara, Zamfara State, chapter to enable them execute developmental projects for the benefit of their members.

This occurred shortly after the union took its oath of office and was formally inaugurated at the institution on Wednesday.

Dr. Badaru said “I am overwhelmed over the enormous successes and achievements recorded by the chapter within the period of two years, with the little resources they have, and a clear indication of prudence and transparency.”

“I am committed to ensuring more success flows, as we will continue to push for the right things, in the right direction, through consistent dialogue and peaceful consultations.”

He further urged the newly elected executive officials to consider dialogue and consultations in running the affairs of the union.

He instructed Exco to intensify effort towards generating a practical and feasible concern that will comprehensively solve the difficulties confronting the state of polytechnics in Nigeria’s education system and reposition it to successfully play its very important role in educational development.

Badaru, urged the management of Abdu Gusau Polytechnic to “repair the ASUP’s operational vehicle or procure another one for the chapter,” since movements are crucial to the union at all levels of conflicts, while emphasizing on the importance for industrial harmony between the union and management.

“Politics are over; now it is time for governance; we expect all hands to be on the desk to continue the journey for the initiated union’s objectives.” He said

Meanwhile, on behalf of his executive committee, newly inaugurated Chairman Comrade Murtala Muhammed Jangebe thanked the Zonal Coordinator, members, and other ASUP stakeholders for their support and promised to run a campus-based administration based on equity, transparency, accountability, fairness, and quality service delivery.

He urged all ASUP members to support the union more to ensure good representation and continuity in the projects initiated by the past administration in the institution.

Elaborating on the successes of the past administration Mr. Jangebe said they include: “settlement of internal borrowings of about ₦700,000; Bakolori Cooperative Society 1.2 million Naira; Sallah meat and Ramadan pakage 3.5 million Naira; ASUP’s national debt engulfed about 1.3 million Naira; and construction of ASUP’s guest in taking about 1.3 million Naira.”

He urged all ASUP members to show more support for the union in order to maintain proper representation and continuity in the institution’s projects launched by the previous administration.

In the same spirit, he extended his gratitude to the Zonal Coordinator Dr. Abdulazeez I. Badaru for “facilitating ₦500,000 in cash support to our chapter to avoid delisting from the national body”.

However, the chairman expresses gratitude to the state’s governor, His Excellency, Dr. Dauda Lawal, for paying state employees’ year-end bonuses and clearing the backlog of payments left over by the previous administration.
