Zamfara state police Command has arrested 17 more suspects for alleged participation in looting and vandalization of private and public properties linked to post governorship election victory celebrations in the state.
In a statement issued at a press briefing held at the state police headquarters in Gusau, by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Mohammad Shehu , the arrest of the suspects was as a result of violence that erupted shortly after declaration of winner of the
governorship election held in the state perpetrated by hoodlums in disguise of celebration
According to the statement, the hoodlums took the advantage of the election victory celebration and looted and vandalized several political campaign offices, MDAs and personal belongings of some noticeable politicians in the state.
Following the incident, the command under leadership of CP Kolo Yusuf had arrested 40 suspects and 17 more in connection with the case are now in the police net, while many of the looted properties have been successfully recovered .
Among the suspects arrested is one Yusuf Magaji aka Mai Anguwa 60 years and items recovered are two generator sets belonging to Ministry for Humanitarian Affairs, two standing fridges, windows, chairs, tables and electronic gadgets etc.
The statement added that the suspects have confessed to their actions while effort is being intensified to reach out to more of the perpetrators and bring them to book.
