As part of Zamfara state government’s readiness to revamp its health sector, the state Primary Healthcare board has organized a refresher course on personal hygiene for persons with special needs in the state.
The refresher course was organized in conjunction with the state Ministry for Social Welfare in Gusau, the state capital.
Speaking during the course, the Executive Secretary of the state Primary Healthcare board, Dr. Tukur Ismail said the course was aimed at sensitizing persons with special needs in the state on matters of personal hygiene.
He said the program would education the target audience on how best to take good care of themselves health wise.
Dr. Tukur noted that going by official statistics, persons with special needs take 11percent of the total population, saying it is pertinent to consider them in all aspects of development, especially in healthcare delivery.
Permanent Secretary in the state Ministry for Social Welfare, Dr. Habibu Yelwa, said in his remarks at the occasion, commended the state Ministry of Health and the Primary Healthcare board for organizing the course which he adjudged necessary and timely.
Dr. Yelwa advised the organizers and members of persons with the special needs to take the health care sensitization down to rural dwellers so that they too, become in the limelight in terms of personal hygiene.
Also, the Permanent Secretary, state Ministry of Health, Pharmacist Aliyu Maikiyo, represented by the ministry’s Director for Nursing services, Jamilu Dinawa commended the state government for its efforts on improving healthcare delivery across the state.
Assorted drugs were presented to babies of persons living with disabilities drawn from branches of the associations in the state at the end of the sensitization training.
