As part of new modalities to strengthen his campaign strategies, the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed two seasoned journalists, Mahmud Jega and Abdulaziz as his campaign media aides.
In a Press Statement from Tinubu Media office and signed by Mr. Tunde Rahman, noted that the two appointees were chosen based on their individual competence and understanding of Nigeria’s general political issues, programs and activities.
The statement further said the new media aides are expected to translate their wealth of experience and political know how to revamp the Tinubu presidential campaign media approach nationwide, the North in particular.
According to the statement, Mahmud Jega has been designated as Special Adviser, Public Affairs while Abdulkarim Abdulaziz fixed as Special Assistant on Media and Publicity.
Until his appointment, Jega was an in-house analyst for Arise TV and ran a weekly column for Thisday newspaper.
He was also the Editor-in-Chief of an online publication, 21st Century Chronicle.
On one hand, Abdulkarim Abdulaziz who is an award-winning journalist and a social media influencer, was until the appointment the Deputy General Editor of Daily Trust Newspapers and had anchored a morning show for the Trust TV, an arm of the Media Trust Group.
Following his stint as a lecturer of Biological Sciences at the Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto, Jega has been
practising journalism for more than three consecutive decades.
For 13 years Jega was the Managing Editor, Editor, Deputy Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board Chairman of Daily Trust Newspapers.
He had also served as Editor, New Nigerian Newspapers, Editor of The Sentinel magazine, Kaduna, and Assistant Editor, Citizen magazine.
Also, Abdulaziz has experience across the print, online, broadcast and social media. He had worked as Correspondent, Bureau Chief and Regional Editor for the LEADERSHIP Newspapers, before he joined the Blueprint Newspaper which he left in 2017 as Deputy Editor.
Before joining Daily Trust at the beginning of 2021, Abdulaziz also worked with the Frontline online newspaper, PREMIUM TIMES, as Associate Editor.
